Schedule and Guidance

The table below is the ten weeks' schedule and it's not a schedule, each row of the table explains the agenda of the week, and column one is the weekly progress, the second column shows the content of the week, and the third column is the guidance for instructor to follow.

Learning Style Test;

In first week, the class will meet through the Synchronous tool Elluminate, within which, the teacher will explain the course syllable, the overall schedule, the objective of the course, the reading list, the assignments, the tools will be using during the class and the grading rules.

A pre-course assessment will be done at the end of the class, to get an idea of each student's learning style and preference of the course content, how well the students comprehend the online tools so that the further appropriate instruction will be offered, the reason why the students are taking the humanitarian assistance courses and the general background of the students.

Week 2

How the world operate in terms of large scale natural disaster.

The major issue in disaster management and humanitarian assistance.

International organizations and the framework of the coordination among those organizations.

This session will be a lecture through Elluminate and PolyCom.

The guest speaker is expected.

Students are required to post their own understanding about the humanitarian assistance through the Asynchronous forum on Moodle.

Week 3-7 Week 3: Food crisis Week 4: Climate Changes Week 5: Population Displacement Week 6: Lesson Learned from Earthquake Week 7: Lesson Learned from Cyclone Nargis Materials: Videos, Photos and other multi-media materials, along with readings and research papers Guest speaker is expected. Moodle and Elluminate as synchronous tool are supporting the classroom setting while Moodle Forum as asynchronous forum.
Week 8 - 9 Guest speaker Online discussion
Week 10

Each student will give a Power Point

Presentation through Elluminate / Polycom.

The topic ranges from mental health to PTSD, from education to the GIS and from the NASA spaceship program top the daily life education. This is a show case session, for students to share what they are most impressed from the class.

Generally it can be anything under the students’ locus of control. The presentation prefers to be in PowerPoint, but not limited.
